About Karen A. Solomon, LCSW, BCD, CGP...

I developed a keen sensitivity to the emotional pain and struggle of those around me at an early age and knew what I wanted to do when I grew up. After years of working in the corporate world, and starting a family, I became determined to accomplish my lifetime goal and was accepted at Adelphi University School of Social Work, where I earned my master’s degree, became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and began my career as a psychotherapist.

During my training I had the opportunity to work with populations whose emotional problems are frequently neglected. These included foster children and their families as well as the elderly. This experience heightened my awareness of the special needs and challenges of these groups. After graduation I became a Child Specialist in a substance abuse treatment facility. There I worked primarily with children of substance abusers, children of divorce and parents in recovery.

After working in the field for a few years, I returned to graduate school and completed a two-year post-masters certificate program in clinical social work. During this advanced training, I developed a special interest in working with individuals, groups, step-families and adult children of alcoholics.

My credentials include Board Certification in Clinical Social Work, awarded by the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work as well as Certification in Group Psychotherapy thru the American Group Psychotherapy Association.
